Self-Cleaning Suit
This fine layer of air ensures that water never comes into contact with the polyester fabric. It can be submerged in water for two months and still remain dry to the touch, says Seeger.

"Although the textiles did show some degradation in the mechanical abrasion tests, their performance was very impressive," he says. "The era of self-cleaning clothes may be closer than we think."

Mars. deco - It's taken 57 years, but science has caught up to the movies again with the invention of water and dirt defying fabric. Check out "The Man in the White Suit" (1951) starring Alec Guinness. Hopefully the new material will be more durable, have less social impact and be less dangerous to produce than the fictional version.

Phil Somerset - This has been one of my favorite movies since I first saw it maybe 40 years ago. This article brought it immediately to mind. The development of this indestructible (and undyeable, hence the whiteness) fabric introduces complications with its threat to the future of the textile industry and the unions that protect its employees. Might the same issues be involved here?

Arnie - What Happens To The Little Nano-filaments When They Fall Off. . . ?
Is it possible to breathe them in? Nano-pollution?
